Being raised by a creative, single mom in Philadelphia, PA has helped me grow in many ways. My older sister and I didn't have the latest toy or the hippest clothes - we just had each other and our strong comedic roots!
My mother worked at a Dry cleaners during the day, but at night she burst on the scene as a young, struggling actor. Performing "guerrilla" style theater any where she could be seen. Sometimes breaking out in full fledge skits in the parking lot of our local supermarket. It was quite a life!
My mom laid a foundation for me that was based on using "comedy" as a positive tool to combat all the pressures of the world that were ahead of me. She allowed me to express myself and be free with my silliness. That "freedom" is apart of my life today.
I am now all grown up and raising a daughter of my own. I am teaching her to embrace her creativity and love the skin she's in. She's amazing! At the young age of nine, she has already begun to make her mark on the world as an outspoken comedy voice. Byron Allen was the first person to showcase Syd's talents on EntertainmentStudios.com, a national television entertainment magazine.
All my life, I have been surrounded by inspiration and loads of love. I have no choice but to give it back! With the help of my comic friends, I have created a great program that promotes growth and a loads of laughter. I started this program because I realize that kids need positive outlets to everyday issues that they deal with. On January 13, 2007, the Make It To The Mic! School of Comedy was born!
My mission is quite simple:
"Create an environment that allows individuals the freedom to be themselves through improv and stand-up comedy techniques. One day at a time, one voice at a time, one idea at a time, we can all "Make It To The Mic!"
